Best Blogging Camera

After taking a TON of photos and videos with my DSLR Nikon 7200, I decided it was time to grab a smaller, lighter camera that I could whip out on a whim when I need it.

Now don’t get me wrong… I LOVE the way my videos look when using the Nikon D7200. But it takes a lot of time to change it from my photography set-up to my video set-up.

I have to change out the lens (I use a 50mm lens to take photos), make sure the manual settings are right, double and triple check that I’m in frame and more, all before even sitting down to start my video.

Well as a busy mom, when I have a few minutes to shoot a video, I’d rather use that time actually SHOOTING the video, rather than setting it all up.

So now I consider my Nikon D7200 my photography camera ONLY, and it’s STILL my favorite camera for shooting photos for my blog. See my photography resources and equipment HERE.

Family Vlogging + Travel

I also started wanting a vlogging camera so I could take it along with us on family outings, and use when my oldest started showing interest in having his own YouTube channel. (Adorable, right?)

A Cheap Vlogging Camera

I’ll admit… a cheap vlogging camera was also something I wanted to find because I had a feeling I really wouldn’t use it that often since I have an iPhone that can take video just as well. (Or so I thought.)

But I’ll be totally honest, after researching and reading TONS of reviews to find out which was the best vlogging camera that bloggers and YouTubers use, I went ahead and made the move, and purchased the Canon G7X Mark II PowerShot 20.1MP Digital Camera.

Best Vlogging Camera YouTubers use: and it has a flip screen!

Although it’s not the cheapest vlogging camera out there, the reviews and videos that I saw that were made with it, sealed the deal.

Why I LOVE this Vlogging Camera

Is it the best camera for YouTube and vlogging? Well, I guess that depends on who you ask, what types of videos you are shooting, and other factors.

But are you a beginner, amateur, or even veteran vlogger/blogger looking for a vlogging camera that will shoot clear, quality videos whether you’re on-the-go with your family, or shooting interview style videos? Then I truly think you will LOVE this camera.

Here’s why I love it…

  • The ease of use, right out of the box. It doesn’t take a professional photographer to figure anything out with this one.
  • Flip Screen: This has been a game changer when doing videos on my own. I’m able to see that I’m in frame while shooting.
  • The auto-focus is a lifesaver for someone like me who moves around a lot and talks with my hands.
  • The white balance settings can make even the most unpleasant “yellow” rooms, seem bright/white and professional.
  • It’s small enough to carry in my purse, along on day trips with the family, or on a shopping adventure where I MAY find a need to shoot a favorite find in-store.
  • Although my iPhone does capture great video in a pinch, it truly does not capture the quality and clear video that this camera does.
  • It slips right on to my handheld tripod or my other lightweight tripod that I extend and prop up on the floor for my unboxing videos.
  • My boys can use it when they shoot videos for their YouTube channel so they’re not asking my iPhone to video their outdoor adventure vlogs. Eeeek.

…those are just a few reasons why I love this camera so much, and why I think you’ll love it too.

Vlogging Camera with Flip Screen

Flip screen vlogging camera

This has been a GAME changer, having a camera with a flip screen. Now, I’m able to make sure I’m

  • In the frame while shooting.
  • I can see if I have a wacky hair out of place.
  • And even most importantly… I can see if my battery dies while shooting. Let’s not even count the videos that I’ve made, not knowing that my battery died half-way through.

Video Example Using my Favorite Vlogging Camera

If you’re like me, you want to see the camera in action before you buy it. Well here’s a video I recorded on a whim, with about 5 minutes notice.

I grabbed the camera, attached it to the lightweight tripod, and I was ready to rock in my yellow-tinted room. (Not to mention the “yellowish” Christmas lights in the background.)

I LOVE the automatic color settings that this camera has so that my photos can be bright and airy like I desire for my videos. It was always a pain trying to get this just right when doing videos with my DSLR.

Auto Focus

You probably also noticed in this video, that with my unboxing videos I can be all over the place, holding clothes up to the camera, leaning over and talking like a crazy woman, flailing my hands everywhere. This camera locks right in on what should be in focus, and you can’t hear it adjusting one bit. (Or at least I can’t.)

Where to Buy this Camera & Accessories:

Not gonna lie, I’m an Amazon Prime girl, through and through. So that’s the first place that I look when I need new camera gear, and this is NO different. I’ve had fantastic experiences with buying 99% of my camera, video and photography equipment on Amazon. I’m even a bargain hunter and price shopper, but I usually end up back at Amazon.

I recommend buying this vlogging camera HERE.

Camera Accessories and Extras:

Now that listing also has different options and packages so you can get fun extras like an SD card (which you have to have for this camera, although I prefer the 64GB so I can do a lot of videos) or even a package where you can get an extra battery pack.

But I wanted to include the accessories that I use for my Canon G7X Mark II PowerShot 20.1MP Digital Camera, to help make things a little easier.

  • Handheld tripod: I love using this for videos on the move. I use this when filming sporting events because it’s MUCH more stable than my hand holding the camera alone. It’s also great to have because if you spread the legs on it, it acts as a stationary tripod too! (It’s compact and great to slip in my purse for travel.
  • Larger tripod for floor/table: This is what I use for videos like the one above. I can extend it higher if I’m shooting a sit-down type of video and I don’t have a table in front of me to prop up the handheld tripod on. I carry a large handbag with me everywhere I go, so this slips down inside of it too when I know I’m headed out to shoot video/photos. Although this wouldn’t be a “take just in case” type of tripod, whereas the handheld tripod above is. I also use this tripod to support my huge Nikon D7200, so it serves a lot of different purposes!
  • 64GB SD Card: After a lot of trial and error, I’ve found that the 64GB SD works better for me than the 32GB (although it’s nice to have as a back-up). Nothing worse than shooting a video and it stops because you’ve run out of space on the card. After a couple of videos, I usually transfer them to Dropbox, so I can use and reuse the SD card.

Thanks for this review! I’ve been looking for a new camera to use for vlogging. My one question for this camera is, is there a way you can add an external mic to this? We have one already and would need one for our vlogging videos, so that’s a requirement for whatever camera we go for.

    1. Jessica says:

Hi Janice! I wasn’t sure, so I just went to Amazon and it looks like someone asked the same question and an Amazon customer answered it with a “There is no connector for an external microphone.” I’m sorry, but I hope that helps!
