It’s simple. My mom loves coffee and Jesus. Don’t get me wrong… she loves other things too… but she LUUVS her coffee and Jesus. š
When Mother’s Day rolled around, I totally waited until the last minute to make her Mother’s Day gift. (Ok, maybe the day after Mother’s day, I finally made her gift. But don’t tell her I said that.)Ā I’m a HUGE procrastinator with some things. I have no idea why, but I tend to think I have more time than anyone else to get something done.
Does the person you’re gifting to, love tea more? Look at this adorable “tea” gift idea!
Anyhoo… I had been wanting to experiment with a few things on my Silhouette machine, and I knew this would be the perfect opportunity. I’ve made t-shirts with heat transfer material, but working with vinyl was going to be a, “first.” I thought, “Ha, this will be a breeze.”
And it was… but it would have been easier if I would have researched vinyl with a Silhouette first. I had no idea that you would need “transfer,” paper, to easily transfer vinyl to the mug.
SO…QUICK TIP:
Before you plan to use vinyl with your Silhouette machine, you may want to invest in some transfer paper.
I posted a video on Facebook of myself trying to do this without transfer paper, and well…
What if I don’t have a Silhouette machine, but I want to make this?
Well.. then I think you should put a Silhouette machine on your “wish list.” Or just get one like I did, and told my husband that it was NECESSARY for me to have. š
But if you’re not ready to buy one just yet… I’ve seen some SERIOUS fabulous DIY crafts out there, that were created using a magic marker. Just search on Pinterest, and I guarantee you’ll find some magic marker mug tutorials!
How I Made this DIY Coffee Mug Gift:
I just grabbed a plain white coffee mug at Target.
I decided what I wanted the mug to say {making sure it was something that described the person I was giving the gift to}, and I “cut,” it out with my Silhouette machine.
Lastly… I grabbed a few K-Cups {because my mom has a Keurig coffee machine, and put them in a plastic favor bag, that I had left over from one of the kids’ parties.
I tied the bag with some precious little washi tape that I had on hand, and viola. I have a DIY gift for my mom for Mother’s Day.
The beautiful thing about this gift?
It could be a gift idea for anyone. Mom, best friend, husband, preacher, teacher, co-worker…
What I’m most excited about? I now have a new “go-to,” gift idea that I can whip up in no time. PLUS… when the receiver knows that it was made by you… it all of a sudden means that much more to them!
Happy Crafting & DIY’ing!
Let me know if you have any questions!
XO!

I would like to know what kind of vinyl you use and did it stay on the cup through washing. I have used Sharpies before, but they fade after I have washed it a few times. I even baked mine in the oven longer than the directions said to. I really don’t want the vinyl to peel off if I am giving it as a gift. Thanks

Hi Vicki!
I actually used the wrong kind of vinyl for this particular project, but there is vinyl out there that holds up really well!! I’ve learned a lot from a facebook group that I’m a part of. You should join, if you aren’t a part already! Its right here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SilhouetteCAMEOProjectInspiration/
But I believe it’s 651 vinyl, that holds up well? You may want to double check in the FB group! They’ll all know what works GREAT! š Thanks for coming by!
