Healthy Smoothies for Busy Moms: Because being a busy mom doesn’t leave a lot of time to think about healthy options for ourselves. Smoothies to the rescue!

I am THRILLED to welcome my friends from “Healthy Vegetarian Pregnancy,” as a guest contributor today! Since I was recently pregnant, their site caught my attention and I thought my “expecting” friends and followers would love to know about them too! Check out their amazing smoothie recipe they are sharing with you all today, and read below, how you can get a copy of their recipe ebook for FREE!

“As a busy parent are you always running around jumping from one activity to another? There is something always going on, something that always shows up at the last minute no matter how much planning we do. Sometimes our son will spill a jar a snacks all over the living room, sometimes I will spill milk and cry over it. Not literally but you know what I mean 🙂 All this is apart from the various things that we have to do on a daily basis including chores, day job duties, twiddle fingers (just kidding), and of course, play with my son. Can I have a show of hands from folks who have skipped or delayed their meal in the last week? I really wish I could see you now but hopefully, we can be face-to-face someday.

You don’t realize it now but in the long term, your body doesn’t like irregular meals. It tends to give you signals every now and then – a sniffle, cold, or if severe, the flu. I bet you will show a really high correlation between every time you feel sick and your diet regularity. I totally understand that we are doing the best we can and skipping meals is never our intention. Worry not – I have a quick and easy solution that you can use from time-to-time. After your thunderous drum roll, I reveal the magic word to you – SMOOTHIES.

Yes, these are the delicious drinks you might have seen at Jamba Juice or Robek’s. You can easily make them in the comfort of your home. You don’t need an industrial blender like they use – we use a Magic Bullet and it has been awesome for us. Most of all, you don’t need to spend $4 a pop plus taxes on them.

Smoothies are the easiest dishes to prepare on earth. All you need are your favorite fruits, vegetables (YES!), and for the mixing you can go with a combination of ice, water, and juice. It is really that simple. With this ingredient list, I am sure that the benefits are clear:

    • Lots and lots of vitamins and antioxidants from  fruits and vegetables
    • The taste of veggies such as spinach or broccoli can be easily hidden by combining them with fruits
    • You get natural sugar. No need to add cups of additional sugar
    • Hydration – you provide water to your body
    • Recharge – your body gets a natural boost from the fruits and vegetables

I must add that you can have your smoothie on the move and that it can serve as a, excellent meal replacement. If you are into workouts, you can add your favorite protein powder to it as well. To give you an example of how smoothies can be healthy as well as yummy, here’s a really simple recipe you can whip up quickly in your home.

You can find more recipes for desserts and smoothies in our eBook 30 Desserts and Smoothies for a Vegetarian Pregnancy. The “pregnant” part about the recipes is to ensure some details including the use of pasteurized sources, providing alcohol substitutes, and ensuring that all ingredients are wholesome and natural. These same principles will work even if you are not expecting.

We also want to take the opportunity to announce that just for this weekend, Amazon is promoting our eBook for free! Take advantage of the opportunity and get it here: http://www.amazon.com/Desserts-Smoothies-Vegetarian-Pregnancy-ebook/dp/B00FNHUP8M. It will be really helpful if you could rate the book and give your feedback.
