I shared our “construction process” with you all when we were just finishing up our house {see that post here: “Wrapping up Our New Home Construction.”}
Well, I promised you all a tour when it was completed, and I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll EVER feel like it’s completed enough to show. So… I thought, “Why not go ahead! I can always add more later.”
So here we go:
Exterior Update:
We’ve finally added shutters to our house! We are still planning to stain the shutters {stain color TBD}, but I couldn’t wait to share with you the new look! Only two years later… š
(Back to original post…)
Now… the hard part? Getting my husband to let us stay in this house for longer than a year. We’ve moved 5 times in the last 2 years, and I’m ready to stay put for a while. But have you ever tried to get a real estate developer to sit still? š
After 5 years of marriage, and two kiddos, we decided it was time to build a home for “us,”.
From day one, I knew my husband was exceptional at building and designing custom homes, so I wanted to “stay out of it.” I’m so glad I did, because I couldn’t be happier with the way everything turned out.
I snapped these photos right after we had sod put down, and we’re not QUITE finished with the landscaping, but having green grass is soooo nice compared to a muddy yard!
We ended up finishing our basement, and that completed the house with 4 bedrooms and 3 baths.
We had always wanted a gas lantern on our home one day, so we knew it was a must when we were picking out lighting.
My husband also added a little flair to the ceiling of the front porch by adding this type of soffit . I never knew this was even an option, and love how it turned out!

Love the outside of the house. Do you know what colors you used for the exterior paint?
Jessica says
Yep! We used āHardy” siding and the shakes are actually real cedar. Colors of the siding are āclay,ā and āwickerā is the color of the soffit and facia. I hope that helps!
Derek jones says
Hi Jessica my name is Derek.you have a very beautiful home.
Kimberly Wisener says
As I was looking for a way to clean off my chalkboard, I found your article about your home and pinned some pics! When I design our new home, it will be very similar to yours.
Your home is beautiful and looks very welcoming. It shows that you’ve put so much heart into it. Blessings to your family!
Thanks for sharing
Jessica says
Aww, thank you so much Kimberly! That means a lot! I’m so glad that you came by and dropped a note. Have so much fun designing, and building your home!! XO
Jennifer Cline says
I love your exterior. We are still in the planning phase of building in Iowa and I’m struggling with exterior colors. Can you tell me the color and brand of your siding and shakes?
Jessica says
Of course! I just checked and it’s “Hardy siding” and the shakes are actually real cedar. Colors of the siding are “clay” and “wicker” is the color of the soffit and facia. I hope that helps!
T says
Can you share the exterior color names with us? So pretty!
Jessica says
Hey! I’ll try to see if I can find out what colors they are for you! It may take me a bit, because I’ll be checking with our suppliers!
Tammy says
Hi did you find out the colors of the exterior paint? I really like the green. Thx!
Jessica says
You know what, I didn’t, I’m sorry! I’m still trying to figure it out though, so I’ll be sure to come back here and post if I do!
Jessica says
Hey there! I just got my hands on colors of our exterior. You may not need them anymore, but I’ll put them here in case someone else does! Of course!
We used “Hardy siding” and the shakes are actually real cedar. The colors of the siding are “clay” and the color of the soffit and facia is “wicker.” I hope that helps!
Lori says
Just wondering, are the porch ceilings wood or vinyl? Love the look!!
Jessica says
Hi Lori! Thank you! They’re vinyl or metal… I can’t remember offhand! Lol… hence the reason my husband does most of the decision making when building our homes. Lol!
Adrienne Isbell says
I am looking for soffit like this! Could you tell me who makes it?
Jessica says
Of course! (You may not need this anymore, but just in case…) The soffit and facia are actually aluminum! (In wicker) I hope that helps!
Tiffany Freeman says
Your house is beautiful!! I would LOVE to find this house plan! The exterior colors are perfect! Would you please let me know where to find this plan at? Thank you!! š
Jessica says
Awww! Thank you so much! I’m so sorry for the delay in responding!!!
Absolutely! I don’t have the house plans on me, but you are more than welcome to contact our architect and see if he still has them! Here is his website… just let him know you saw the house over on my website, and that it’s Matt and Jessica’s craftsman style home! He’ll know what you’re talking about! š http://markhovisdesigns.com/
Kandace Agner says
I love your home!!!! your style is great! can you please tell me where you found this house plan! love it!!
Jessica says
Awww! Hi Kandace! Thank you so much! We actually had a client build a home similar to this, (who had a local architect design it for them!) If you’re building, and would like a plan, I’d be ever so happy to direct you to the architect to get the plan! š
Therese Chase says
Could you please email me the contact info for the architect? I love your home! š
Jessica says
Oh of course!! Here is his website! http://www.markhovisdesigns.com/ Tell him you’re talking about Matt and Jessica Burgess’ house, and you saw it on the her blog. {Fantabulosity} He’ll know which house you’re talking about! š I say all of that, because we’ve built so many homes, and he may not be sure if you’re talking about my husbands company’s website, or my blog. š Let me know if I can help anymore! š
Whitney Pudenz says
Just curious on the square foot of your beautiful home.
Jessica says
Hi Whitney! I’m GUESSING… but I believe it is around 2400 sq. ft. with a partially finished basement. I hope that helps!
Becky says
