I shared our “construction process” with you all when we were just finishing up our house {see that post here: “Wrapping up Our New Home Construction.”}
Well, I promised you all a tour when it was completed, and I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll EVER feel like it’s completed enough to show. So… I thought, “Why not go ahead! I can always add more later.”
So here we go:
Exterior Update:
We’ve finally added shutters to our house! We are still planning to stain the shutters {stain color TBD}, but I couldn’t wait to share with you the new look! Only two years later… 😉
(Back to original post…)
Now… the hard part? Getting my husband to let us stay in this house for longer than a year. We’ve moved 5 times in the last 2 years, and I’m ready to stay put for a while. But have you ever tried to get a real estate developer to sit still? 😉
My husband and I own “Missouri Land Company,” which specializes in Real Estate Development, and Custom Home Construction. After 5 years of marriage, and two kiddos, we decided it was time to build a home for “us,” instead of moving from spec home to spec home.
From day one, I knew my husband was exceptional at building and designing custom homes, so I wanted to “stay out of it.” I’m so glad I did, because I couldn’t be happier with the way everything turned out.
I snapped these photos right after we had sod put down, and we’re not QUITE finished with the landscaping, but having green grass is soooo nice compared to a muddy yard!
We ended up finishing our basement, and that completed the house with 4 bedrooms and 3 baths.
We had always wanted a gas lantern on our home one day, so we knew it was a must when we were picking out lighting.
My husband also added a little flair to the ceiling of the front porch by adding this type of soffit . I never knew this was even an option, and love how it turned out!

Jessica says
Awww! Thank you so much! I’m so sorry for the delay in responding!!!
Absolutely! I don’t have the house plans on me, but you are more than welcome to contact our architect and see if he still has them! Here is his website… just let him know you saw the house over on my website, and that it’s Matt and Jessica’s craftsman style home! He’ll know what you’re talking about! 🙂 http://markhovisdesigns.com/

Just wondering, are the porch ceilings wood or vinyl? Love the look!!
Jessica says
Hi Lori! Thank you! They’re vinyl or metal… I can’t remember offhand! Lol… hence the reason my husband does most of the decision making when building our homes. Lol!
Adrienne Isbell says
I am looking for soffit like this! Could you tell me who makes it?
Jessica says
Of course! (You may not need this anymore, but just in case…) The soffit and facia are actually aluminum! (In wicker) I hope that helps!
T says
Can you share the exterior color names with us? So pretty!
Jessica says
Hey! I’ll try to see if I can find out what colors they are for you! It may take me a bit, because I’ll be checking with our suppliers!
Tammy says
Hi did you find out the colors of the exterior paint? I really like the green. Thx!
Jessica says
You know what, I didn’t, I’m sorry! I’m still trying to figure it out though, so I’ll be sure to come back here and post if I do!
Jessica says
Hey there! I just got my hands on colors of our exterior. You may not need them anymore, but I’ll put them here in case someone else does! Of course!
We used “Hardy siding” and the shakes are actually real cedar. The colors of the siding are “clay” and the color of the soffit and facia is “wicker.” I hope that helps!

I love your exterior. We are still in the planning phase of building in Iowa and I’m struggling with exterior colors. Can you tell me the color and brand of your siding and shakes?
Jessica says
Of course! I just checked and it’s “Hardy siding” and the shakes are actually real cedar. Colors of the siding are “clay” and “wicker” is the color of the soffit and facia. I hope that helps!

As I was looking for a way to clean off my chalkboard, I found your article about your home and pinned some pics! When I design our new home, it will be very similar to yours.
Your home is beautiful and looks very welcoming. It shows that you’ve put so much heart into it. Blessings to your family!
Thanks for sharing
