Relax + Color: “Favorite Things” Party Prep

By: Jessica · Posted: Dec 7, 2015 · Updated: May 24, 2022 · This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure policy.

Prepping for my Favorite Things Party, and sharing my favorite markers for you adult coloring lovers out there, and a trick for those who don’t consider themselves a pro at hand lettering!

This weekend, I had some major down-time, and I knew I wanted to spend it relaxing. But if you’re here for the first time… you may not know that I have a problem with feeling like I have to do TWO things at once, or I feel like time is slipping through my fingers, if I’m sitting around, not accomplishing “something.” With my Favorite Things Party coming up, I was feeling the need to prepare!

    Adult Coloring

I had been seeing the craze of adult coloring all over, and wanted to join in on the fun. People were saying how relaxing, coloring can be.
I had picked up my new Prismacolor Premier Illustration Markers, at Michael’s a few days before {because I was going to make sure coloring would be on my to-do list in the near future}, so I was total game for coloring to “relax.”

Relax and Color- Favorite Things Party Prep

“Kill Two Birds with One Stone:”

Don’t get me wrong, I adore free printables. But there’s just something “special,” & “classic,” about hand-drawn images. Right?

So I began coloring, and crafting up the “gift-drop,” sign for the space where my guests will be dropping their favorite things off, and filling out their names for the gift exchange for my Favorite Things party coming up.

All of a sudden, I was “relaxing,” & checking an item off of my to-do list.

Adult Coloring: Party Signs just look more "custom," when they're drawn or colored. Love this!

Although I’m not fully prepared for my Favorite Things party this year, I DO know what the theme is going to be, and I’m preppin’ as we speak!

I have a minor obsession with “plaid,” this season, and so do about 99% of my guests that will be attending, so it was the perfect match.

I wanted “plaid,” incorporated on my sign for SURE, and I already had created a plaid template that I used to create gift tags a while back, so I used that as a starting point.

    Gettin’ All Crafty:

Embarrassing Disclaimer: I can’t cut a straight line with scissors, to save my life. Unfortunately, that downfall rolls over in to my drawing too. So I cheat when I can.

I use my Silhouette Machine for almost every drawing/writing DIY project that I create. It cuts out the font or image that I need, and then wall-lah, I have a stencil to use. 😉

I have such a crush on this little bunting banner, so I colored a corner of my sign with the red Prismacolor Premier Illustration Marker, and it turned out perfect!

Then it was time to get to the “text.” I’ve been using this font on EVERYTHING, and I couldn’t resist using it for this project too. I colored in the text my black Prismacolor Marker.

Eeeeeek!  Didn’t that turn out so cute!? I also had to color a little “gift box,” & “gift tag,” illustration, to fill the white space, and give it a little more “umph.” I’m tickled to death with how it turned out. The fine point on the brush style marker & the “fine line,” markers, made it so easy to get in to those tiny little spaces of my stencil, to create the detail of the font, that I was looking for.

I placed it in a white frame, and now it’s all ready to go for my party!

Have you been itching to get on the “adult coloring movement?”

Then I have a super special surprise for you lovelies…

To relax, I enjoy a good book and my favorited blanket. Quality time with my son we LOVE to color! I normally have to color buzz light year, so I love the new adult colouring books❤️

I’ve been wanting to purchase one of those adult coloring books!
When I am subbing for a younger grade level classroom and the teacher leaves coloring pages for them for their free time, the students say they would rather do something else to do! I look at them like they’re speaking another language! Haha!

I love cuddling with my hubby after the girls go to bed and watching an episode of whatever tv show we’re currently watching on Netflix!

I love to curl up in bed or my comfy rocking chair (my mom gave me with my first child, the one she had when I was born) with my favorite super soft blanket and read a good book. This is something I don’t get to do very often so I cherish it when I do.

I love to head to my craft room and make a mess with my acrylic paints. I find being creative and getting lost in the process is the best way to relax.

To Relax I listen to calming music and right now just enjoy the lights on the tree and a pretty oil warmer I have with hummingbirds around it.
