Can you believe my husband and I have lived in our current home, OVER two years? That’s never happened. If you’ve been on our home tour, then you know we move constantly. We build, move-in, sell, repeat. But for some reason, we’ve hung on to this house a little longer than usual. I have to think it’s because of all the “thought,” that we put into the design of this one, so we can have the room to entertain. (Or because we had other projects going on, that we could be creative with, like decorating the airbnb for Christmas!)
I’ll never forget moving into our new home, how excited I was to start shopping for a dining room table. I wanted a big one. Like… REALLY big. (So we could fit a gazillion guests at it for a humungo dinner party if we wanted.) I had envisioned creating place settings for each guest, and having the WHOLE table decorated to a T.
This holiday season… I’ve done just that. There was NO stopping me.
For a recent dinner party, I created a tablescape & individual place settings to welcome our close friends.
I’m quite infatuated with Coca-Cola’s “Share a Coke with…” aluminum bottles, so I made them the star of the show. The pops of red and cutesy little sayings are to die for. However, these DIY gingerbread ornaments would be an amazing place setting for the holidays too! You could even paint guest’s names on each one or just write a cute saying.
Tips for Creating a Holiday Place Setting:
Creating a place setting can be so simple. Don’t overthink it. I think that’s where a lot of people get caught up in the planning and decorating. Small, simple little details can add incredible “umph,” to your place setting.
• Grab white dinner plates. White can be so versatile, and go with just about anything.
• Add a pop of color with a smaller plate. {Salad plate, appetizer plate, dessert, whatev…}
• Add something special. Like for this place setting, I fell in love with the aluminum Coca-Cola bottles that I picked up at Target, since they had the “look,” that I was going for & I attached a simple little tag. They can either drink it on the spot, or take it home as a party favor. Adding a small “gift,” or simple “welcome tag,” to each place setting, will make your guest feel all warm and cozy.
• OPTIONAL: In case our guests decided to drink the Coca-Cola on the spot, I wanted to send them home with a small party favor. I just filled a small box with goodies, wrapped it with a ribbon and personalized tag. I also used my FREE customizable place cards, to wrap around each napkin, for an added personalized touch. (I just can’t get enough of personalizing it all.)
Place Setting Details:
A simple kraft colored box, wrapped with ribbon, and a free printable monogrammed tag, can be a simple and affordable statement party favor for your guests. Just fill the box with candies, cookies, or get crazy and personalize the contents for each guest. (I said crazy, because I’ve totally done that, and although my guests loved it, it took A LOT of time. But it was totally worth it.)
Wrapping a place card around a fabric napkin can be another quick & easy (also affordable with my free printable, way to add the right amount of character to your place setting.
I literally grabbed the aluminum Coca-Cola bottles at Target, and they were already cute enough that I didn’t need to do anything to them.
HOWEVER… I can’t leave anything alone. So I created a small buffalo plaid, tag (because I’m super obsessed with that theme this year), that says, “Sips of Joy,” on them, and tied them around each bottle for a little extra pizzazz. If you’re on the buffalo plaid train this year too, then you really, really, need to head over and save my free buffalo plaid gift tags that I created:
