Crock Pot Goulash: This comfort food crock pot meal is made with simple ingredients and packed with flavor from chunky vegetables, hearty beef and warm spices simmered in a rich, tomato based sauce.
In the insert of a 6-8 quart crock pot, combine one 28 oz. can crushed tomatoes, 1 cup chunky tomato pasta sauce, 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, 2 tablespoons of minced garlic, 1 tablespoon paprika, 3 tablespoons Italian seasoning, ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese, ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese and ½ tablespoon of red pepper flakes and stir until well mixed.
Now, add 2 ½ pounds of ground beef that has been browned and drained, 1 diced large sweet onion, 1 diced large tomato, 1 diced green bell pepper and 1 diced red pepper and stir well.
Next, add 3 cups of beef broth and stir well.
Cook on low for 5 hours or high for 3 hours. 30 minutes prior to serving, add 2 cups of uncooked elbow macaroni noodles. Once the noodles are tender, serve the goulash warm and enjoy!
Notes
If you're not used to have peppers in your goulash, you can leave those out but they provide amazing flavor!
We recommend using lean ground beef for this recipe, but you can also use ground chicken or ground turkey.
You can precook the noodles and add them right before serving this old fashioned goulash.
Crock pot goulash can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
You can freeze the goulash for up to 5 months. We recommend freezing the goulash without the noodles and add them after thawing. Thaw the goulash in the refrigerator before reheating and serving.
To reheat the goulash, you can return it to the crock pot and heat on low for an hour. You can also microwave it in a microwave-safe container. Another option is to heat the goulash on the stove top in a large pan over medium heat.
