2packetsbrown gravy mixsuch as McCormicks
2 ¼cupswater
2tablespoonsketchup
1teaspoonWorcestershire sauce
Salt and pepperto taste
Fresh minced parsleyoptional
Instructions
In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, bread crumbs, beaten egg, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until combined.
Shape the mixture into 4 equal patties that are about 3⁄4 inch thick.
In a large skillet, heat the cooking oil to medium-high heat.
1 tablespoon cooking oil
Place the patties in the oil and sear them for about 3 minutes. They should be browned and almost cooked through (but will finish cooking when we add them to the gravy later.)
Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside on a plate covered with aluminum foil. This will help to keep the patties warm while preparing the mushroom gravy.
In the same skillet add another tablespoon of cooking oil over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms to the pan.
Reduce heat to medium-low and add the patties back into the skillet with the gravy mixture. Simmer for about 7 – 10 minutes until the patties are cooked through. They should reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees F.
Check for seasoning and additional salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with parsley if desired.
Salt and pepper, Fresh minced parsley
Serve the steaks with your favorite side dishes such as mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
Notes
When mixing the patty mixture together, the best way to mix it is with your hands. It is the easiest way to get everything combined. This is messy, but the most efficient way to get everything properly mixed together.
This recipe can be prepared and frozen as a quick freezer meal for later. Cook completely and then cool. Add to a Ziploc freezer bag or freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. When ready to prepare, remove from the freezer and allow to thaw overnight. The dish can then be added to an oven-safe pan to reheat or to a crockpot until warm.
