A slice of strawberry heaven on a plate, and the 9x13 baking pan.

Strawberry Heaven is an easy no-bake strawberry dessert made with layers of angel food cake, vanilla pudding, and strawberry filling. It's light, creamy, and perfect for potlucks, holidays, or when you need something simple that everyone will love.

A No-Bake Strawberry Dessert That Always Gets Requested

This is one of those desserts that looks like you spent all afternoon making it, but it comes together with simple ingredients and easy layering. The angel food cake softens just enough as it chills, soaking up the pudding and strawberry filling without turning mushy.

It's similar to a strawberry trifle or layered dessert, but even easier to make with ingredients you can grab at any store. The homemade whipped cream keeps it light and fluffy, while the strawberry layers bring that classic, sweet, nostalgic flavor everyone loves. In this strawberry cheesecake poke cake, nostalgia is mixed with decadent creaminess, with the addition of cream cheese. It’s also a luscious and sweet option.

This is the kind of dessert that disappears fast at potlucks, family dinners, and summer get-togethers. And once people try it, they'll ask you for the recipe every time.

    What is Strawberry Heaven?

Strawberry Heaven is a layered no-bake dessert made with cubes of angel food cake, vanilla pudding, strawberry pie filling, and whipped cream. It's often compared to a strawberry trifle, but it's quicker to assemble and doesn't require any baking.

    FAQs

Do I have to use angel food cake?

Angel food cake gives this dessert its light, airy texture. You can swap in pound cake if you want something richer, but it will feel heavier.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Yes, and it actually gets better as it chills. You can make it up to 24 hours in advance.

    How do I store leftovers?

Cover and refrigerate for up to 3 days. It's best within the first 24 hours for the best texture.

    Can I freeze Strawberry Heaven?

No, freezing isn't recommended. The whipped cream and pudding can separate and become watery once thawed.

Can I use Cool Whip instead of homemade whipped cream?

You can, and it works just fine for convenience. But homemade whipped cream gives a better flavor and texture.

How do I keep it from getting soggy?

Make sure the pudding is thickened before layering, don't overdo the pie filling, and chill it properly before serving.

    Ingredients

You only need a handful of simple ingredients to make this no-bake strawberry dessert, and most of them are easy shortcuts that save time.

    • 1 prebaked angel food cake, cut into 1-inch cubes
Creates a light, airy base that soaks up all the flavor.
    • 1 (5.1 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
Adds a creamy layer that holds everything together.
    • 2½ cups 2% milk
Helps the pudding set thick and smooth.
    • 2 (21 oz) cans strawberry pie filling
Brings bold strawberry flavor and that classic glossy texture.
    • 2 cups heavy cream
Whipped to create a light, fluffy topping.
    • ½ cup powdered sugar
Sweetens the whipped cream without making it grainy.
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Adds warmth and depth to the whipped cream.
    • 1 cup chopped fresh strawberries (optional)
Adds fresh texture and extra strawberry flavor.
    • ¼ cup toasted sliced almonds (optional)
Gives a little crunch to balance the creamy layers.

    Instructions

Cut the angel food cake into 1-inch cubes and set aside.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the pudding mix and cold milk for about 2 minutes until smooth and thickened. Place it in the refrigerator to set while preparing the rest.

In a large bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract with an electric mixer until medium to medium-stiff peaks form. Refrigerate until ready to use.

    Tips

    • Use cold milk and cold cream so everything thickens and whips properly
    • Let the pudding set before layering so it holds its shape
    • Stop whipping the cream at medium-stiff peaks so it stays light and spreadable
    • Don't overload the layers with pie filling or it can get too soft
    • Chill long enough so the layers settle and slice cleanly

    Ingredients

    • 1 prebaked angel food cake cut into 1 inch cubes
    • 5.1 ounces instant vanilla pudding
    • 2 ½ cups 2% milk
    • 2, 21 ounces can strawberry pie filling
    • 2 cups heavy cream
    • ½ cup powdered sugar
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 1 cup chopped fresh strawberries optional
    • ¼ cup toasted almond slices optional

    Instructions

    • Cut the premade angel food cake into 1 inch cubes. Set aside.
    • In a medium bowl, whisk together the instant pudding mix and cold milk for about 2 minutes until smooth and thickened. Transfer to the fridge while preparing the remaining ingredients.
    • In a large mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract with an electric mixer on medium speed until medium to medium-stiff peaks form. Set aside in the refrigerator until ready to assemble.
    • Spread half of the angel food cake cubes in the bottom of a 9×13 dish.
    • Add half of the vanilla pudding over the cubes then ⅓ of the strawberry pie filling over the pudding.
    • Repeat the layers with the remaining angel food cake cubes, vanilla pudding, and ⅓ strawberry pie filling.
    • Top the final layer with whipped cream and add the remaining strawberry pie filling in 6-8 dollops. Using a chopstick swirl the strawberry pie filling in so it's marbled on top.
    • Top with toasted sliced almonds (optional) and freshly chopped strawberries (also optional).
    • Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or up to overnight) to allow the flavors to meld and the cake to soften slightly.
    • Slice or scoop and serve this dish chilled. Garnish with more fresh strawberries, extra whipped cream, or more toasted almonds.

    Notes

This recipe uses 2 cans of strawberry pie filling to add more strawberry flavor to the dish. You can stick to 1 can of pie filling – If so, do not add any pie filling to the top so you have enough to add into the layers. You may want to add more fresh strawberries to the pie filling if you want more strawberry pieces.
