Sometimes you just want to hit the easy button on dinner. This Crockpot Chicken and Stuffing Recipe uses just 4 ingredients and is completely hands-off! It’s a slow cooker recipe that you’ll want to add to your dinner rotation, pronto!
Stovetop stuffing is a classic side dish – but have you ever made it to put on top of your protein? It cooks up into a fluffy, soft topping for chicken breast and the soup makes a delicious gravy.
You can easily make this same Stove-Top chicken casserole in the oven if you prefer firmer stuffing! I also love to use tater tots in a casserole, and you can make regular chicken and gravy and serve over the carb of your choice.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- It uses a few ingredients: With only 4 ingredients, this recipe uses items that you may even have on hand.
- Easy leftovers: This reheats wonderfully, making it perfect to have leftovers for lunch the next day!
- Hands off: Using your crockpot means you can set it and forget it. Let dinner cook while you get chores done. (Similar to the garlic parmesan chicken pasta.)
Ingredients Needed
I’ve highlighted a couple of ingredients below with some relevant notes. Aside from this, the ingredients needed are pretty basic.
- Chicken breast – I always buy the best quality chicken I can find. This gives you the best flavor and texture.
- Stuffing – Chicken flavor pairs the best. You want a regular-size box, not a family size.
- Broth – Chicken broth helps moisten the stuffing so none of it is crunchy. This is my homemade chicken broth recipe if you’d like to make your own.
- Cream soup – Add tons of flavor and seasoning to the dish with this!
Substitutions
Sometimes substitutions are necessary because of ingredients that are unavailable or needed for dietary restrictions. Here are some suggestions that can help:
- Stuffing – you can use any flavor you have on hand, whether it’s turkey or herb.
- Soup – any creamy condensed soup will work here, so feel free to adjust your dish by using cream of mushroom soup or cream of celery.
Variations
- Cook Method – if you prefer to use the oven, I’ve got a very similar recipe for Stove Top Stuffing Casserole!
How to Make Slow Cooker Chicken with Stuffing
This easy crock pot chicken recipe only requires you to layer and cook, making it great for kids to help out, too! No hot stove for them to contend with.
*Be sure to see the recipe card below for the full ingredients list & instructions!*
STEP 1. Add chicken. Place the chicken in the bottom of the slow cooker (Image 1).
Tip: Be sure to use a rubber spatula to completely cover the top of the chicken, ensuring it will stay moist while cooking.
STEP 2. Add soup. Spread the soup evenly over the chicken (Image 2). Use the condensed soup as-is; do not dilute!
STEP 3. Make stuffing. Much like making it on the stovetop, we are adding the broth to the stuffing to soften it up. Do this in a separate bowl (Image 3).
STEP 4. Top and cook. Spread the softened stuffing over the chicken and let cook for 3 hours (Image 4).
Recipe Pro Tips
- Fully coat the chicken. To ensure the chicken breast doesn’t dry out, make sure and evenly spread the soup over the chicken, completely coating it.
- Correct temperature. Use an instant-read thermometer to ensure the chicken is cooked to 165°F.
Recipe FAQs
Once dinner is over, let the remainder cool completely then pop in airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. You can also freeze for 3 months. Reheat in the oven or on the stovetop, splashing in more chicken broth as needed.
I prefer boneless skinless chicken breasts because they are nice and lean – chicken tenders also work. Covering them with the soup keeps them from drying out. If you prefer dark meat, make sure it is boneless! It will also take a bit longer to cook, so a thermometer is your best bed to make sure it is cooked through.
I haven’t tested it to be sure, but I don’t see why not! Make sure both your stuffing and soup are gluten-free, as many cream soups contain flour as a thickener.
What to Serve with 4-Ingredient Slow Cooker Chicken with Stuffing
This slow cooker chicken and stuffing works well with a green salad, or roast up your favorite veggies on the side. This is the perfect comfort food!

I’m only giving such a high score due to how easy it is to make. I would say there’s more broth than needed for the stuffing, ended up over soggy
I will change the cream of chicken soup out for something else next time, I don’t feel it adds anything to the flavor at all.
