I am SMITTEN with boxed lunch ideas. Anytime I see one on Pinterest, I have to pin it, because the options are ENDLESS. Birthday parties, Baby Showers, Bridal Showers, play dates, girls lunch, etc.
Grabbing a boxed lunch, is easy and convenient for your guests, as well as pretty precious too. š
You can even make a boxed lunch for your kiddos, for an afternoon picnic this Summer, like I sometimes do!
DIY Boxed Lunch Ideas
These are incredibly easy, and is WAY better than grabbing the same ole cheeseburger at a fast food joint, in my kiddos (and my) opinion.
What’s in the boxed lunch?
Well this is what I put in mine… and a few ideas for your next boxed lunch:
I try to add a little “prettiness,” to make it special for the kiddos, and to fulfill my creative needs. š I remember when my mom used to get creative and spice up my school lunches, and I ALWAYS loved that.
Hint: I try to remember to put a few napkins in the bottom of the boxes, so they don’t blow away.
- Sandwich – You can make your own, or to make things even easier, grab a sandwich earlier in the day (or night before) from a local sandwich shop. P.S. That’s my favorite thing to do. š I tied bakers twine around it, to hold it together.
- Chips – My kids don’t need a TON of chips, so I usually put a few in small favor bags that I have.
- Fruit – Whatever fruit is in season, is usually what will end up in our boxed lunches.
- Drink – For a special treat, I have small little re-usable drink containers, and I put juice or water in them. Heck with having to find a sippy cup, or travel cup for my oldest at the last minute. It’s all ready to go!
- Dessert – Saving the best for last! The NEW Oreo 2-ct packs are my fave-o-rite dessert “go-to,” for boxed lunches. They’re super convenient to grab, the right portion size for me…{ahem, I mean my little ones}, and they’re already packaged up and ready to go to the park. {I always try to keep these in the pantry for those grocery store trips, long drives, midnight cravings, and “just because’s.”}
If you don’t have boxes like I have in this photo, no worries! You can use just about anything!
- Small wire basket
- Shoebox
- Cardboard flat from the grocery store
- get creative…
Tip:
Sometimes, if I know a boxed lunch is the plan, I’ll make them ahead of time, and put the whole thing in the refrigerator, and just grab and go when the time comes.
A Little Secret of Mine
(and embarrassing moment)
The Oreo. My weakness. If you’re a close friend of mine, you KNOW this is MY cookie.
If my house is ever without this “big black cookie,” {my kids call it}, we’re making a trip to the store. I may or may not have Oreo’s as my late night snack every night. I may or may not mix it up and rotate how I eat them every night, just for fun.
I’ll…
- Dunk them in my milk
- Pull them apart and eat the middle first
- Shove it all in at once, and never look back!
It pretty much just all depends on what kind of day I’ve had. š
My Embarrassing Moment:
One morning, after what I thought was a beautiful, well-rested night’s sleep, my husband looked over at me with a surprised look on his face:
What in the world!?
“What! What is it?!
Honey, go look in the mirror.
I couldn’t believe it. I looked in the mirror, and I looked like an unsupervised toddler that had been left alone with a cookie jar.
Apparently, I had gotten up in the middle of the night, and satisfied my sweet tooth craving, without even knowing it. I had chocolate smeared across my face, and the lid was off the cookie jar.
Don’t get between me and my Oreo’s. It won’t end well. š
Until next time,
XO!

Hi, this is such a cute idea. Where did you order those paper picnic boxes? I’ve been noticing them on Pinterest, but no direct link to a store-front.

Hi Iris! Unfortunately, I don’t think these are available anymore where I bought them. However, when I need to get some, I usually get them on Amazon, here: https://amzn.to/3YKltyl
