- Flavor: Everyday spices give this pork chop recipe the most delicious flavor by keeping things simple.
- Cooking Level: So easy! Not only an easy prep process but baking these in the oven and only flipping once, means you can let the oven do most of the work.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- Pork chops: When shopping for pork chops, look for 1.5-2 pounds of thick-cut bone-in pork chops that are 1-1.5 inches thick. Other sizes will work, however keep in mind that the cooking time can vary based on if the pork chops are thinner or thicker.
- Water: This is key to prevent smoking and the juices from the pork from burning.
- Herbs: If you prefer to use fresh herbs you can substitute dried rosemary with 1 ½ teaspoons of fresh rosemary. You can also substitute granulated garlic with 1 clove of fresh minced garlic.
- Lemon juice: The lemon juice is optional but it can add even more great flavor, after broiling.
How to Make Broiled Pork Chops
Make sure to check the recipe card below for the ingredients and instructions all in one place.
First, you’ll wash and pat dry the pork chops, with a paper towel. You want to make sure the pork chops are dry so the oil and spices stick to the pork well.
Next, it’s time to brush the olive oil onto each side of the chops and sprinkle the seasonings over the pork chops.
Pour water into the bottom of the roasting pan to prevent smoking and juices from burning. Then place the pork chops onto the pan.
Once the broiler is pre-heated, and the oven rack is placed 5 inches from the broiler, place the pan into the oven and broil for 10-16 (depending on thickness), flipping once halfway through cooking.
The pork chops are done when a meat thermometer reads 145 degrees after being inserted in to the middle of the thickest part of one of the pork chops. Let the pork chops rest 3-5 min before serving.
If desired, squeeze a lemon wedge and juice the tops of hte pork chops to add extra flavor.
Pro Tips for This Recipe
- Type of Pan: If you do not have a short-sided roasting pan you can use a sheet pan with an oven-safe cooling rack placed inside of it.
- Clean-Up: For easy clean-up, line the pan with aluminum foil.
- Internal Temperature of Pork: The FDA states that pork is done at 145 degrees. To prevent overcooking you can remove the chops at 140 degrees and they will continue to cook while resting to reach 145 degrees.
Storage Instructions
These are best when eaten immediately after cooking but also make great leftovers. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days in the refrigerator.
