How to Make Devil’s Food Cookies

These cookies are as easy as they look! Simply mix the batter (even with a spoon!), scoop cookie dough balls on to the cookie sheet, and bake. That’s it!

Four image collage of overhead shots of the steps on how to make devils food cookies.

Allow the baked devil’s food cookies to cool for about 1-2 minutes before removing them to a cooling rack, and then enjoy!

The result of the baked chocolate cake mix cookies is a soft, chewy, rich cookie that is absolutely delicious.

    Cookie Tips

    • Don’t overbake your cookies. Overbaking the cookies can cause them to be dry and crumbly.
    • Line your baking sheet. I used parchment paper for these but I also have a silicone mat that works lovely too!
    • Keep soft. When storing, place a piece of bread in the container or bag, to help keep the cookies soft.

    Storage

Leftovers: Allow cookies to fully cool before storing them in an airtight container or in a storage bag for up to 5 days.

To freeze: These cookies can be frozen for up to 3 months, once the cookies have fully cooled. Store in a freezer-safe container, or bag. Note: I love freezing cookies when they’re wrapped in Glad Press’n Seal, and then in a freezer-safe Ziploc.

    Ingredients

    • 15.25 ounces devil's food cake mix
    • ½ cup vegetable oil
    • 2 eggs
    • ½ cup chocolate chips

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 350° F.
    • In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine cake mix, 2 eggs, ½ cup and vegetable oil with a spoon.
    • Next, add the chocolate chips and stir those in until fully incorporated.
    • Using a cookie scoop, (or a spoon, and rolling the cookie dough in to balls), spoon out cookie dough balls on to a lined baking sheet, placing the balls, 2 inches apart.
    • Place the baking sheet in to the preheated oven, and bake for 8 minutes. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 1-2 minutes before removing them, carefully, to a cooling rack. Allow the cookies to cool slightly before enjoying!

    Notes

To Store: Store any leftover cookies in an airtight container (after they’ve cooled) and enjoy within 5 days. Tip: Place a piece of bread in the container with the cookies to help keep the cookies soft.
To Freeze: Place in freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. (See post for best freezing tips.)
