Key Ingredients
Here’s what you need to make these pulled pork sliders:
Complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.
- Pulled Pork – If you’d like to make your own pulled pork recipe for this, I’d suggest this slow cooker pulled pork recipe or this Instant Pot pulled pork recipe.
- Hawaiian Buns – You can use different sliders if you prefer. These sweet rolls offer such an amazing contrast with the saltiness of the glaze and pulled pork.
- BBQ Sauce – Using original sauce is recommended, instead of spicy or some other type, however, feel free to mix things up!
- Red Pepper Flakes – If you don’t like any heat, you can leave this out of the glaze but it adds a great little kick to mix with the sweet and salty flavors.
- Cheese – I love the flavor of provolone cheese on these sliders but you can use pepper jack, American, Colby jack, swiss, or your favorite.
How to Make BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders
Full instructions can be found in the recipe card below.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
Next, mix together your pulled pork and barbecue sauce (unless your pulled pork already has bbq sauce on it).
TIP: Warmed pulled pork is ideal, so it won’t take as long for the meat to heat through when baking. You can pop it in to the microwave to warm it before assembling the sliders.
Slice Hawaiian buns in half, creating a top bun layer and a bottom bun layer.
Place the bottom layer of buns on a baking sheet that’s lined with parchment paper. Spoon out all 4 cups of cooked pulled pork on to the bottom bun layer and then cover pork with the 9 slices of cheese.
Next, place top layer of buns on top of the cheese.
In a small bowl, mix together ¼ cup melted butter, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard and 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce to make glaze.
Brush the glaze on top of the buns, saving half of it for after you’ve baked the sliders.
Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of sesame seeds, 1 teaspoon grated parmesan cheese and ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes across the top of the glazed buns.
Place sliders in the preheated over and bake, covered with foil, for 20 minutes. (TIP: Remove the foil when there’s a minute left, and let it cook to toast the buns a bit.)
Recipe Pro Tip
- If your cheese hasn’t melted after the 20 minutes, it could be because the cheese is thick. Simply cover with foil again and bake an additional 3-4 minutes or until it has melted. Or, slice the sliders, and place back in to the oven, covered, so it melts the cheese more evenly. (If your pulled pork was cold, when assembling the sliders, this could also delay the warming process.)
Brush the remaining glaze on top of the buns, then slice in to individual sliders and serve!
📋 Recipe FAQs
Provolone, cheddar, pepper jack, Monterey Jack, Colby Jack, Swiss, and American, are all great options for these sliders.
Creamy coleslaw, french fries, baked beans with ground beef, chips and dip, and red potato salad are amazing side dishes that go with pulled pork sliders.
If your pulled pork is dry, this could make for a dry slider. Try mixing a little bit of apple juice, beer or broth in to your pulled pork (about a teaspoon at at time) until it shows moisture. Just be cautious of adding too much, as it will make your slider soggy.
Storage
For leftover sliders: allow them to cool and then cover with plastic wrap or aluminum foil, and refrigerate for up to 3-5 days.
To reheat: you can place individual sliders in the microwave for about 30 seconds, or until heated through. Or, place multiple sliders in the oven and bake, covered (so the bread doesn’t get hard) at 350 degrees until heated through.
