How do you make pigs in a blanket in air fryer?
The ingredients are simple, and so are the steps to make these air fryer crescent dogs (or pigs in a blanket – call them whatever you like, I just call them delicious).
- Prepare hotdogs by cutting them in half.
- Roll half the crescent dough out so you can see 4 triangles. Slowly work seams together so you have one piece of dough.
- Using a pizza cutter, cut dough into 8 strips. Repeat this with the other half of the dough. You will have a total of 16 strips.
- Wrap each strip around each half hot dog.
- Place pigs in a blanket in a greased air fryer basket so they are about an inch apart in a single layer. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may have to cook in a couple batches.
- Air fryer at 350°F for 4 minutes, then flip. Continue air frying for 4 more minutes or until crescent dough is golden.
- Serve your pigs in a blanket with your favorite dipping sauces! This is the perfect appetizer for a game day party, a birthday party, or really any day!
Air fryer pigs in a blanket temperature
I’ve found that 350° is the best temperature to cook these pigs in a blanket at. You can turn the heat up a bit if you are in a hurry and decrease the cooking time by a minute, but make sure you watch them so they don’t get too brown!
Air fryer pigs in a blanket time
When you are cooking them at 350°, you’ll need to cook them for 4 mins on each side. If you are turning the temperature up you’ll have to keep an eye on them, but I think you would want to decrease the cook time by a minute on each side.
You want to cook them until the crescent roll dough is nice and golden brown and the hot dog looks a bit sweaty.
Substitutions & Variations
Need to swap out one of these two ingredients? Want to mix things up a little bit? Here are my suggestions!
- Hot dogs – instead of hot dogs cut in half, you could make these easy air fryer pigs with cocktail sausages! Save the hot dogs for this delicious buffalo hot dog recipe!) Cocktail sausages can also be called cocktail weenies, little smokies, mini hotdogs, lil’ smokies, mini sausages, mini dog…no matter what they are called, they are the same. They are made so they can be eaten in one or two little bites, so they are perfect for this recipe.
- Crescent dough – if you don’t have access to canned crescent dough, you could also make these with puff pastry dough (either the flakey puff pastry you find in the freezer section of the grocery store of even a homemade version).
What to dip your air fryer pigs in a blanket in
The best way to create variations on this recipe is to mix up the dipping sauce! Here are some of my favorite sauces to use…
- bbq sauce
- ketchup
- honey mustard
- mustard
- cheese sauce (try this pretzel cheese dip, it would be perfect)
- jalapeño ranch dip
What’s the best air fryer to use?
Air fryers have become very popular lately, and with good reason! They are a super efficient and low mess way to cook. We have a ton of air fryer recipes here on the blog, so of course you can bet we have a blog post on the best types of air fryers, too!
Storage
Store your air fryer pigs in a blanket in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-5 days. When you’re ready to eat them, you can reheat them in the microwave or in the air fryer if you’d like them to be a bit crispy again!
Expert tips and faqs
Yes! You can wrap the hot dogs (or cocktail sausages) in the dough ahead of time and then freeze them. When you are ready to cook the frozen pigs, you’ll just need to increase the cook time by a minute or so on each side. Flip them after 5 minutes and cook for another 5, then see if they are golden brown. If not, cook for another minute or so.
Yes, you certainly can. There are plenty of recipes you can find online for oven-baked pigs in a blanket, and it seems most of those recommend baking them at 375° for 10-14 minutes.
