Asian Sloppy Joe Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make these teriyaki-flavored sloppy joes.

Complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.
- Ground beef: Ground chuck provides a hearty base for the sloppy joe mixture. The fat content helps bind the flavors. You can substitute the beef with an equal amount of ground chicken, turkey, or plant-based crumbles.
- Hoisin sauce: Adds a sweet, tangy, and savory depth to the sauce, giving the dish an Asian-inspired flavor.
- Soy sauce: Introduces umami and saltiness to the dish. Use low-sodium soy sauce to control salt levels.
- Honey: Adds sweetness that balances the savory and spicy elements. You can substitute the honey with an equal amount of maple syrup or brown sugar.
- Rice vinegar: Provides acidity, which brightens and balances the richness of the meat mixture. You can substitute the rice vinegar with apple cider or white vinegar.
- Sesame oil: Adds a nutty, toasted flavor that complements the Asian profile of the dish.
- Garlic powder: Provides a subtle garlic flavor that blends smoothly into the sauce. You can substitute garlic powder with fresh minced garlic.
- Fresh ginger: Adds a spicy warmth and aromatic flavor that enhances the dish’s freshness. Grate the ginger finely for better integration.
- Sriracha sauce: Brings heat and a slight garlicky tang to the sloppy joe mixture.
- Cornstarch: Thickens the sauce, giving the sloppy joes a rich, velvety texture. Dissolving cornstarch in cold water before adding it to the mixture helps to avoid lumps.
- Sesame seeds: Provides a slight crunch and nutty flavor, enhancing the presentation.
