Easter Snack Mix: This “Bunny Bait” is not only easy but it’s a fantastic Easter dessert idea, and perfect to snack on at an Easter celebration!
Quick Overview: Grab a large mixing bowl, baking sheet, and just a few of your favorite ingredients and you’ll have Easter mix, ready to eat, in minutes!
Why you’ll love this recipe
This bunny bait trail mix is super flexible, meaning you can use whatever candy or cereal you prefer! I mean, when it’s covered in melted white chocolate chips, it’s hard not to love!
When we shared the bunny bark recipe, and the no bake Easter egg truffles, I knew that this easy sweet chex mix recipe had to be next! They’re all such delicious Easter ideas! It’s similar to a mix that we make every Christmas too, which is this Christmas snack mix, and it’s a hit for any holiday!
TIP: Have candy leftovers from the Easter charcuterie board? Mix it in with this Easter snack mix!

Snack Mix Ingredients
Even though I’ll provide a list of ingredients for this recipe, please feel free to change things up! It’s very similar to our Leprechaun Bait recipe, for St. Patrick’s Day, so it’s very versatile for any holiday.
You’ll just want to make sure you keep the melted chocolate and dry cereal ratio the same… so you have enough chocolate to cover it! (But also feel free to use different types of cereal.)
- 2 cups rice Chex
- 1 cup cheerios
- 1 cup Cinnamon Toast Crunch
- 1 ½ cups white chocolate chips
- 1 cup peanut m&m’s
- ¼ cup Easter sprinkles (or pastel colors)
- ½ cup jelly beans
- 1 cup Cadbury mini eggs (like we used in these mini egg cookies!)
See recipe card toward the bottom of the post for full instructions and ingredients, all in one place!
Instructions
- First, thinking ahead, grab a large baking sheet and cover it completely with parchment paper.
- Next, melt the chocolate baking chips in a microwave safe bowl (a big bowl) (large enough that the cereal will fit in it after the chocolate is melted) following the package directions for melting. (Most will be to melt on half-power for 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds. Do NOT overcook.)
- Once the chocolate is completely melted, pour your dry cereal in to the bowl of white chocolate and carefully give it a good stir to mix, trying to make sure all of the cereal becomes covered.
- Pour in half of the sprinkles and stir.
- Once mixed, pour out your chocolate covered cereal on to the parchment paper and spread it out so most of it is in a single layer. (It’s ok if some of it’s still touching – you’ll be breaking it up in to small pieces anyway once it’s hardened.)
- Quickly, sprinkle the reamaining sprinkles on the top of the cereal before the chocolate hardens.
- Allow cereal to “dry” (about 10 minutes).
- Once dry, pour candy on top of cereal mixture and mix up/break up the cereal in to small bite-size pieces. (Remember, this is a snack mix so it’s ok if some of cereal is stuck together but large pieces are harder to eat when snacking.)
- Once broken in to bite-size pieces and combined, as evenly as possible with the candy, place it in a bowl, ready for serving!

How to serve bunny bait recipe
What’s great about this dessert is that it can be made ahead of time and placed out in small bowls, around the room, or on a buffet, so guests can snack as they please!
Or, if you want to put small amounts in treat bags, for little Easter treats, it’s a great way to create a little gift for your friends and family, or even classmates! It’s also a great treat to add to Easter baskets.
You may also want to include these chocolate-covered Easter Oreos too!
Substitutions
If you don’t have some of the items on hand, it’s absolutely ok to substitute your favorite cereal, candy and more! Here are some ideas:
- Golden Grahams cereal
- All Chex cereal instead of using a variety
- Easter Hershey kisses
- Reese’s cups
- Mini candy bars
- Starburst Jelly Beans
- Mini marshmallows
- Candy melts instead of baking chips
- Pretzel sticks, pretzel twists, mini pretzels
- Candy Easter eggs
- Bunny graham crackers
- Popcorn
Variations
This recipe has a white chocolate flavor but if you prefer the taste of muddy buddies, (or puppy chow) you may want to add peanut butter to your melted chocolate before pouring over the dry cereal!
How to store Easter bunny bait snack mix
It’s best to store any leftover sweet snack mix in an airtight container, and best to enjoy for 5-7 days.
