Rice Krispie Treats made with marshmallow fluff, stacked on top of one another, and pulled apart to show marshmallow pull.

Rice Krispie treats with marshmallow fluff are an easy, no-bake recipe that uses marshmallow fluff (or creme) instead of traditional marshmallows, making it a great alternative for when you can’t have marshmallows or don’t have any on hand.

    Important Notes:

    • Allow enough time to set: I find that I have to let these rice krispie treats sit for quite a while before cutting and eating, so they don’t fall apart.
    • Texture: What else I find, is that these have a different texture than traditional treats with marshmallows. To me, these treats have a cleaner “bite” to them (and more airy) than traditional. They remind me more of the store-bought treats, where there’s not as much marshmallow “pull” like traditional homemade treats, but they’re not as dense and they taste better than store-bought.
    • Taste: For me, they also have a more creamy flavor than traditional treats with marshmallows.

I don’t know why I didn’t think to use marshmallow fluff to make rice krispie treats, sooner!

It was a habit to make classic rice krispie treats using marshmallows, and honestly, I personally prefer a traditional rice krispie treat with marshmallows but let’s face it… I don’t always have marshmallows on hand but I do seem to always have a jar of marshmallow creme in the pantry.

Want more no bake dessert recipes? I have quite a few to choose from. Start with these rice krispie treats with marshmallow fluff, then try these no-bake cookies (they’re perfect for a really quick dessert), this lemon puppy chow, or this classic caramel corn recipe.

While You’ll Love These Marshmallow Fluff Rice Krispie Treats

    • Easy to Make: Rice Krispie treats are easy to make in general but using marshmallow fluff for these is just as easy!
    • Alternative to Marshmallows: When you don’t have marshmallows on hand, or if you can’t have marshmallows, these rice krispie treats using marshmallow fluff work!
    • Kid-Friendly – It’s great dessert for kids to make since it’s a no-bake recipe, and it only uses a few ingredients.
    • Customizable – You can easily add in your favorite flavors, such as chocolate chips to make chocolate rice krispie treats, sprinkles, cookies for Oreo rice krispy treats, or even flavors like when I made caramel rice krispy treats.

Ingredients for Rice Krispie Treats with Marshmallow Fluff

Here’s what you’ll need to make rice krispie treat with marshmallow creme (or fluff):

Complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.

    • Unsalted Butter: Butter adds the rich flavors to this no bake treat.
    • Marshmallow Fluff: Rather than using marshmallows, the fluff helps hold the treats together and makes the treats smooth and creamy.
    • Vanilla Extract: Using pure vanilla extract is recommended over immitation. Gives the treats and extra touch of sweetness and a bit of depth.
    • Rice Krispie Cereal: The crispy texture of the treats. You can use any brand of crispy rice cereal or use fruity krispies to make them similar to these Fruity Pebble Treats.

How to Make Rice Krispie Treats with Marshmallow Fluff

Prepare a 9 x 13-inch baking dish with parchment paper or cooking spray.

    1. Melt: Allow butter to melt in a large pot over medium heat.

    2. Add Fluff: When melted, reduce heat, and add marshmallow fluff.

    3. Add Vanilla: Remove from the heat and add vanilla.

    4. Add Cereal and Stir: Pour cereal in to marshmallow mixture and stir.
Rice krispie treat mixture pressed in to 9x13 baking dish, sitting on marble counter.
    5. Pour in Pan and Cool: Press cereal mixture in to baking dish in to an even layer and allow to cool before cutting in to squares. (This could be even up to a 2-3 hours before they’re ready to cut, or they may fall apart.)
Remove a square from the dish with a spatula, and enjoy!

Tip: Don’t press the mixture too much – Pressing the mixture down in to the pan too much, will make the treats dense instead of light and chewy.

    Recipe Tips

    • Timing: If you don’t have enough time to allow the treats to cool and set, you may prefer rice krispie treats with marshmallows, as those tend to set faster since marshmallows have gelatin in them.
    • Use Fresh Marshmallow Fluff: Older fluff can become hard, or really stiff, so this would make stiff, hard, rice krispie treats.
    • Control the Stickiness: Use wax paper to press the treats down in to the dish, or lightly wet hands with water or nonstick cooking spray before pressing down the treats to prevent the mixture from sticking to your hands.
    • Allow to Fully Cool: Allowing the treats to fully cool will help make sure that the treats don’t fall apart.

    Storage Tips:

Important: Storing these improperly will cause the treats to dry out and they’ll no longer be soft and chewy.

Place the marshmallow fluff treats in an airtight container or bag for best results when storing.

    Equipment

    • sauce pan
    • parchment paper
    • 9×13 Baking dish
    • Wooden Spoon
    • wax paper optional for less mess

    Ingredients

    • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
    • 13 ounces marshmallow fluff or creme
    • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
    • 7 cups rice krispie cereal or your favorite brand

    Instructions

    • Prepare a 9 x 13-inch baking dish with parchment paper or cooking spray.
    • Melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Once the butter melts, reduce heat to low, add (1) 13-ounce jar of marshmallow fluff, and stir until the mixture is smooth and creamy. (About 2-3.)
    • Remove the mixture from the heat, and stir in 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract.
    • Gradually add 7 cups of Rice Krispie cereal to the marshmallow mixture, stirring until all of the cereal is evenly coated with marshmallow.
    • Press the mixture into the prepared baking dish using a piece of wax paper. Let the Rice Krispie treats cool completely before cutting them into squares. (Do note: This can be as much as 2-3 hours or more, as the fluff doesn't "set" the treats as quickly as traditional rice krispie treats.)

    Notes

      • Use Fresh Marshmallow Fluff: Older fluff can become hard, or really stiff, so this would make stiff, hard, rice krispie treats.
      • Control the Stickiness: Use wax paper to press the treats down in to the dish, or lightly wet hands with water before pressing down the treats to prevent the mixture from sticking to your hands.
      • Allow to Fully Cool: Allowing the treats to fully cool will help make sure that the treats don’t fall apart – and this could be a while. Make sure you allow enough time for the treats to set. I find that this takes close to 3 hours, since the fluff takes longer to set than marshmallows.
