I’ve seen french toast bake recipes all over Pinterest. It always looked crazy delicious and looked fairly easy.
When I was watching an episode of The Pioneer Woman, the other day, I saw her whip up a baked french toast dish, and of course… it looked FABULOUS.
So I decided to give it a whirl, and have a girlfriend over for brunch, & have Baked French Toast and Mimosas.

So my favorite thing about making this French Toast Bake is that I can make it the night before, and practically throw the thing in the oven when I wake up. An hour later, it looks like I’ve been up since dawn, slaving away in the kitchen.
French Toast Bake Recipe

As soon as my toddler rolled out of bed, he smelled what was going on, and had to partake in the event.
Honestly, I don’t think it really needs syrup, but you can’t really make something, “too,” good… so go ahead throw some syrup on.
French Toast Bake
Ingredients
- 1 loaf French bread
- butter or non-stick spray for coating casserole dish
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 Tablespoons pure vanilla extract
Topping:
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 pinch nutmeg
- 1 stick butter cold; cut into pieces
Instructions
- Grease a 9×13 casserole dish with butter or non-stick spray.
- Tear or cut the French bread into chunks/cubes, and evenly distribute into the dish.
- In a separate bowl, mix the eggs, milk, cream white sugar, brown sugar & vanilla.
- Evenly pour egg mixture over the bread.
- Cover the bread and store in the refrigerator until ready to bake. Preferably overnight.
Topping:
- Mix together flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg in a separate bowl.
- Add the pieces of butter, and mix together with either a pastry cutter or a fork {supplementing your hands, combining the ingredients, until the texture is fine pebbles.}
- Store topping in the fridge until right before baking.
Bake the French Toast:
- Preheat over to 350 degrees F.
- Sprinkle topping over french toast.
- Bake uncovered for 1 hour.
