See how easy it is to make this no bake chocolate pie, with just a few ingredients, that you may even have on hand. This chocolate pudding pie is one of our favorite pie recipes, and it’s a smooth, creamy, chilled dessert that is perfect for the summer months or enjoyed as a holiday dessert recipe.
This dessert recipe is one of the many no bake recipes and even no bake desserts, that we have come up with for you, (similar to our Chocolate Turtle Pie) and it just may be the perfect dessert for what you need.
What makes this no bake chocolate pie recipe better than the rest? The layers. If you look closely, you can see:
- an Oreo crust
- then a darker chocolate pudding layer
- a lighter chocolate layer (chocolate pudding and whipped cream mixture)
- then finely, a creamy Cool Whip layer.
The chocolate no-bake layers are similar to this no-bake Oreo dessert recipe that has become so popular, and this Oreo mousse. But sometimes the old-fashioned feel that comes from a creamy pie, is the best choice for family gatherings or to pair alongside a hot cup of coffee on a rainy day; just like this chocolate cream cheese pie and no bake peanut butter pie that we make too!

Ingredients Needed
To make this no bake chocolate pudding pie, you’ll need simple ingredients like: chocolate pudding mix, cold milk, Cool Whip (whipped topping), chocolate pie crust (or an Oreo cookie crust, made out of crushed Oreo cookies and melted butter), and a chocolate bar.
Substitutions
Sometimes it’s fun to switch things up if you’re feeling creative or perhaps you’ll need to change some ingredients out to use what you have on hand. Either way, here are some ideas to help get you started:
- Crust – A simple storebought graham cracker crust will work for this recipe too, or you can make this Biscoff pie crust for a twist on flavor that will pair perfectly with the chocolate filling.
- Pudding Mix – White chocolate pudding mix or any flavor of pudding mix, really, would also make a delicious pie filling, just make sure it’s instant pudding mix. (We use cook-and-serve pudding mix in this possum pie if that’s what you have on hand though!)
- Whipped Topping – We use Cool Whip for a lot of recipes here because it’s a great shortcut and saves time, like when we used it in this pumpkin pie with graham cracker crust, recipe. However, if you prefer a homemade whipped topping as we used in our no-bake candy cane pie, using heavy whipping cream and sugar, then you can use that as well!
