❤️ Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Friends, we all know that all of the recipes around here are quick and easy recipes, yes? Well, if there was a word to describe that this pork steak recipe was even easier than ANY recipe on this blog, (well besides this slow cooker pulled pork) then I’d say it. So I’m just asking that you take my word for it!

Or… better yet, take a look at the recipe below, and you’ll SEE how easy it’s going to be.

Not Enough Time? If you don’t have time for a slow cooker recipe, then check out my Baked BBQ Pork Steaks recipe to speed things up!

    Raw pork steaks in crockpot

Honestly,  I think the hardest part of this recipe was walking to the deep freezer, to pull the pork steaks out to cook.

    💡 FAQs

Do I need to add liquid to slow cooker pork?

For this recipe, all you need is bbq sauce with the pork steaks. As they cook, they’ll release juices and cook in those so it’s not necessary to add additional liquid.

How do you cook pork steaks without drying them out?

Cooking them in the slow cooker with bbq sauce is a GREAT way to have tender, juicy pork steaks!

Can you cook frozen pork steaks in the slow cooker?

Yes! You’ll just want to make sure to cook them long enough to reach the safe-eating, internal temperature of 145 degrees, and allow them to rest for 3 minutes before serving. Or cook in the slow cooker until 160°) Cooking from frozen won’t allow you to cut slits in them as the recipe states, but that is ok… they can still be delicious!

You’ll find the full recipe card at the bottom of the post, but if you’re a visual person, don’t miss the helpful tips throughout the post!

👩🏻‍🍳 How to Cook Pork Steaks

First, I added a little salt and pepper to the pork steaks, before putting them in the cooker.

Since my wonderful parents gifted us with half a hog this year, we have an endless large amount of pork in our deep freezer. And because I didn’t think until the last minute to make pork steaks for dinner, I threw those frozen babies right in to the slow cooker.

bbq sauce poured on top of raw pork steaks in slow cooker

If the pork steaks had not been frozen, I would have cut a small slit or two in each steak before saucing and cooking to allow some extra flavor and to help cook the steaks a little faster.

    1. Pour a dab of bbq sauce in the bottom of the slow cooker.
    2. Place a steak in the slow cooker and baste with a dab of bbq sauce.
    3. Repeat the process and place another steak in the slow cooker, making sure each steak is covered with sauce.
    4. Cook on low for 4-6 hours, or until steaks are done. (Making sure the internal temp of pork steaks reaches 145 degrees, and allow to rest for 3 minutes before serving or go ahead and cook until the internal temperature reaches 160°. — this temperature has been updated according to the USDA’s recommended temperatures.)

Slow Cooking Makes Tender Pork Steaks

I’ve always been on a hunt for tender pork steak recipes, and before making these, I knew that cooking meats in the slow cooker, typically made them super tender. But for my husband to stop mid-bite to say,

“Jessica… these are really, really tender.”

I’ll have a hard time making these any other way. They were so tender that I’m even considering cooking them again, just to use the meat in a “pulled pork,” style of dish. They turned out to be one of the best pork steak recipes we’ve ever had.

TIP: Our slow cooker tends to cook SUPER fast. (Even on the “low” setting.) So our pork steaks tend to be “done” after a couple of hours. But when I leave the pork steaks in the crockpot for a while (at least four hours) they’re literally hard to get out, without them falling off of the bone.

These were SOOO tender! BBQ Pork steaks in the slow cooker are SO much easier than grilling, and they come out so tender!

🥗 What to Serve With Pork Steaks

We absolutely love having this red skin potato salad (or cauliflower potato salad if doing low carb), baked beans with ground beef, this bbq ranch cornbread salad or to keep it simple, we’ll open up a can of green beans and try one of these ways to make green beans taste better! But when you’re serving pork of any form, it seems like this KFC Coleslaw recipe is always a hit.

❄️ How to Store Leftover Pork Steaks

If you have leftover pork steaks, once cooled off, store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days.

    Ingredients

    • 4 pork steaks
    • 1 bottle BBQ sauce we use Sweet Baby Rays
    • salt and pepper to taste

    Instructions

    • Rub salt and pepper on both sides of each pork steak.
    • Using a knife, cut a small slit or two in each steak.
    • Pour a dab of bbq sauce in the bottom of the slow cooker
    • Place a steak in the slow cooker and baste with a dab of bbq sauce.
    • Repeat the process and place another steak in the slow cooker, making sure each steak is covered with sauce.
    • Cook on low for 4-6 hours, or until steaks are done. (Making sure internal temp of pork steaks reach 145 degrees, and allow to rest for 3 minutes before serving.)

    Notes

*Our crockpot cooks VERY hot, so there are times that the pork steaks are done in a shorter amount of time. But the longer the pork steaks remain in the slow cooker, they FALL off of the bone.
    • Do I need to add liquid to slow cooker pork? For this recipe, all you need is bbq sauce with the pork steaks. As they cook, they’ll release juices and cook in those so it’s not necessary to add additional liquid.

      Oh. Em. Gee.

5 stars is not enough to rave about this recipe. I just took it out of the cooker about 20 min ago. Had to use a spoon because it was so tender and about to fall off the bone. Took a little taste, but it was so good I had to have another. Super simple and yet, a fantastic payoff that tastes like i put in tons of effort. Just for some spice I threw a can of Chipotle Ro-tel in there.

For dinner I’ll make some rice and pour the juices over that, and add a side of sauteed spinach with mushrooms and garlic.

Thank you so much for this!

      P.S. Stay safe!

Thank you. I am a single male 77 years old. I can’t cook. Never learned. Now I have to. I loked at 15 recipes before I found this one. Every one of the others listed 7 or 8 ingrediates that I never heard of. I was about to give up and just burn them in a skillet. Then I found your recipe! Steaks, bbq sauce, crock pot, 4 hours! THAT is my kind of cooking. Please more like this, little prep time, few but common ingredients, little involvement in the cooking part. I bookmarked your sight!

Hi Alan! You know, that’s a great idea… but I haven’t tried that yet. It may depend on how much of the drippings the pork produces, but I’d sure try it. It sounds delicious!

Hi Sarah-Jane! You don’t need to marinate the pork steaks or add any liquid! Just place a small amount of sauce at the bottom of the slower cooker and then place the steaks in the slow cooker, one at a time, covering each one with bbq sauce and then cook! I hope that helps!
