Blue Cheese Burgers are taking your burger game to the next level. The ground beef filled with blue cheese crumbles gives the burger a juicy bite, with the perfect flavor of cheese. Pair it with a pretzel bun, and it’s mouth-watering central.
Although I’ve cooked this recipe in a cast-iron on the stove, you can use a nonstick skillet or you can even bake burgers in the oven, or make burgers in an electric skillet, on the grill, or in the air fryer. (Or your favorite method of course!)

Ingredients You’ll Need
As you can see below, not much is required to make this delicious burger recipe! I’ve included notes on the key ingredients below. Make sure to check the recipe card below for exact measurements.
- Ground beef: I typically use more of a lean ground beef, since we have a beef butchered every year. But you should be able to use your favorite type of ground beef for this recipe.
- Blue cheese: You can actually use too much blue cheese in this recipe. (Or at least my husband said when I was testing this recipe. I preferred more but he said it was too much. So if you find that you want more blue cheese, go for it!) You can also use Gorgonzola if that’s what you have!
- Pretzel buns: You don’t have to use pretzel buns but my goodness the flavor is so good! But we’ve used regular hamburger buns and they’re delicious too.
How to Make Blue Cheese Burgers
- Combine the ground beef, blue cheese, and spices in a bowl, and mix until evenly combined.
- Place seasoned burgers in skillet (I did add a little butter since using a cast iron but you can use nonstick spray or your favorite item to use to keep burgers from sticking) and cook for 3-5 minutes and then flip. Cook for an additional 3-5 minutes or until the juices run clear.
Blue Cheese Burger Topping Ideas
When the burgers are finished cooking, it’s time to build your burger! We chose to use pretzel buns, and lettuce leaves. The blue cheese crumbles are enough cheese for me. However, here are some other ideas:
- mustard
- ketchup
- onion
- pickles (or go wild and make this fried pickle chips recipe!)
- bacon
- onion rings (like in my cowboy burger recipe)
- bbq sauce
Can we talk about how delicious that blue cheese cooks in to that burger, above. You can see the crispy little golden blue cheese nuggets on the outside edge there!
Storage
If you have leftover burgers, allow them to cool before storing them in an airtight container or storage bag, and place them in the refrigerator. Enjoy within 3-4 days.

Recipe
Blue Cheese Burgers
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- ½ cup blue cheese crumbles
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper or to taste
- 1 Tablespoon garlic powder
- 4 pretzel buns
- your favorite burger toppings
Instructions
- In a medium-sized bowl, mix together ground beef, blue cheese crumbles, and spices.
- Form burger patties into 4 equal-sized patties.
- Place in a skillet and cook one side of the burger over medium heat for 3-5 minutes, and then flip to cook the other side for 3-5 minutes, or until the juices run clear.(I do also add about one Tablespoon of butter or spray the pan before cooking to prevent sticking.)
- DO NOT mash down the burgers while cooking. This will release the juices that you want to stay in.
- Assemble the burgers and top with additional toppings of your preference.
