Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- It uses a few ingredients: A quick trip to the deli is all you need to complete this recipe!
- Make-ahead recipe: Did you know that you can freeze these sliders? I love to wrap them in pairs for a quick lunch.
- Easy to customize: Use any deli meat and cheese and swap out your mustard as well for a true family favorite.
Ingredients Needed
Here’s what you’ll need to make these ham and cheese sliders:

- Ham – I find that shaved or super thin deli meats are best here. That will allow you to easily create an even layer of meat across the entire set of rolls. I use the same type of ham in my hot ham and cheese sandwiches!
- Cheese – Swiss is of course the classic ham pairing – but you can use any cheese you like! Again, thin slices are best so you can cover all of the meat.
- Dijon mustard – The little bite here will pair so nicely with the ham and Swiss! If you aren’t a fan you can feel free to use yellow mustard or a stone ground mustard. If you buy Dijon mustard just for this recipe, use more making these sloppy joe sliders!

How to Make Deli Ham Sliders

STEP 1. Slice the rolls. Use a serrated bread knife to carefully slice the entire slab of rolls across the horizon.
STEP 2. Add spread. Spread the softened butter and mustard evenly across the rolls.
Tip: It’s ok if your rolls fall apart a little bit! Place them close to each other in your pan so that they remain cohesive.

STEP 3. Layer the meat and cheese. Add the ham in an even layer, whether that means flat out in rounds or scrunching it up on each roll. Add the cheese slices on top.
STEP 4. Cover and bake. Spread melted butter on top and sprinkle on seeds, then tent with foil and bake.
Recipe Pro Tips
- Use a baking dish. If you use a dish rather than a baking sheet, you ensure your cheese doesn’t melt out the sides.
- Flavor swap. Get creative on your toppings. Use sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or even everything seasoning!

Recipe FAQs
Definitely! The key here is to have your rolls, whatever type they may be, squished up together on your pan. This makes it easier to layer the fillings. So as long as your sliced rolls can sit neatly next to each other, they should work here.
Yup! You can wrap the entire package up in foil and then bake later on. Thaw in the fridge overnight before baking. You can also wrap individual servings to take as a packed lunch.
What to Serve with Deli Meat Sliders
Chips, dips, and veggies are perfect. If you are serving as appetizers then you can include chicken wings or bbq meatballs in your spread. I love stuffed celery sticks as a vegetarian offering.
Storage
Store any leftover sliders in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat by popping them into the toaster oven to get crisped up.
