This waffle burger is a combination of savory and sweet, and is one of the most ultimate bacon cheeseburgers you’ll ever have!
Quick Overview: An easy recipe, made with a burger patty, golden brown waffle, topped with melted cheese, bacon slices and an over easy egg.
Waffle burgers are one of our favorite recipes to splurge on when looking for an easy breakfast idea or dinner idea.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Not only are waffle burgers fun to look at, the flavors of the sweet waffle, combined with the savory burger, bacon, egg and cheese, can be a nice surprise!
Plus, it’s fun to create your own combinations with what kind of waffles you use, how you cook your egg, different types of bacon and more, so you can make this as easy as you’d like or get really creative, making everything from scratch.
Ingredients
For this recipe, we like to keep things easy and use a lot of pre-made ingredients but feel free to make your waffles from scratch and even use pre-pattied burgers if you’d like!
For the full ingredients list and instructions, please see full recipe card toward the bottom of this post.
- waffles
- burger patties
- sliced American cheese
- slices of bacon
- egg
- salt
- pepper
- syrup (if desired)
Waffles
When I can find these pre-packaged pastry Belgian waffles in the bakery section, I grab them specifically for this waffle cheeseburger because they are absolutely delicious! They’re soft, yet they have a small sugary “crunch” to them that adds the greatest texture to this soft, pillowy burger/egg combo.
However you can use any waffle you’d like! For instance:
- Storebought waffles
- Frozen waffels (like an Eggo waffle)
- Homemade waffles with a waffle maker
- Blueberry waffles
- Chocolate chip waffles
- Cheese waffle
- Chocolate Waffles
Burgers
When it comes to the burgers, you can make them with your preferred method. Our favorite way is to bake burger patties.
However, you may prefer to use a frying pan and cook burgers on the stove, on the grill, burgers in the smoker, in the air fryer burgers, in an burgers in an electric skillet, or grill burgers from frozen, etc. Any cooking method is perfectly fine!
Eggs
The egg is totally optional but if you’d like to add an egg to this recipe, we love the using an over-easy egg. However, you may also prefer a fried egg, sunny side or over medium egg!
Bacon
If using bacon for this recipe, thick cut bacon is a favorite however you can use any type of bacon that you have on hand or that you prefer.
It can be fun to also try different bacon seasonings like:
- maple bacon
- honey bacon
- peppered bacon
- brown sugar bacon
Step-by-Step Instructions
- First, if making your waffles homemade, you’ll want to do that first, so they’re ready to use as buns when your burger patties, bacon and eggs have been cooked. If making yoru own and using a Belgian waffle iron, here is a really easy Belgian Waffle tutorial if it’s helpful. (Just make sure to pay attention to how many waffles your recipe calls for, so you have enough waffles for the burgers. You’ll need 2 waffles per burger and this recipe makes 3 burgers – so 6 waffles are needed.)
If using storebought or frozen waffles, you can wait to warm them up when it’s time to build the burger.
- If you’re wanting to bake the burgers like we do, place ground beef burger patties in greased baking dish, and place in a 375° oven, and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the juices run clear.
- While burger patties are baking, this is a great time to prepare your eggs and your bacon.
- For the bacon, you can cook your bacon with your favorite method. Our favorite is to cook bacon in the air fryer, however you can cook bacon in a skillet on the stove, bake it in the oven, or even cook it for a few minutes in the microwave.
- If making over-easy eggs, simply melt a little butter in a skillet on medium heat and gently crack egg in to skillet. Allow egg to cook for a few minutes and once the whites of the egg are no longer runny, gently turn the egg over and allow the yolk-side of the egg to cook for about one minute. Carefully remove from skillet and set-aside. (Keep warm if possible.)
- If making cheeseburgers, once the burgers have finished baking, place a slice of cheese on each fully cooked burger and with the oven turned off, allow the leftover heat to gently melt the cheese on to each patty. Once the cheese melts, remove from oven after cheese has melted. (Approximately 2-3 minutes.)
- Once all of the burger “layers” are cooked and ready, it’s time to assemble this waffle burger!
- Take one waffle, and top with cheeseburger. Next, add on the over-easy egg, and top with bacon.
- Place second waffle on top and if desired, serve without syrup. (See syrup step below.)
- If serving with syrup, warm up your maple syrup for best results. Then, gently pour over the assembled waffle burger and serve with a fork!
TIP: If serving with syrup, it’s best to use a plate with raised sides as this can get deliciously messy, quick!
Substitutions
Want to switch some things out? Feel free to! You may even find it fun to switch out the beef patty for sausage patties, or a crispy chicken breast like we did for our zinger burgers!
📖 Variations
Feel free to also add your favorite toppings to this burger! Here are some additional ideas of what to add to your new favorite burger!
- jalapeno pepper
- black pepper
- crispy fried onions
- onion ring
- ham
- Canadian bacon
- sausage
What to Serve with Waffle Burgers
If making a meal out of these burgers, it’s fun to serve them with air fryer hashbrown patties or air fryer breakfast potatoes.
Storage
If you have leftovers, it’s best to store each item, separately, so the ingredients will not become soggy.
Store items in airtight containers or plastic ziptop bags, in the refrigerator and simply reheat when ready to eat again.
